Neighborhood Threat

I hate when someone says ‘I’m shutting down my blog” and then doesn’t. I kept the site up because there were actual helpful links that had been Google-fied, and because I was also too busy to physically take it down.

I thought I would contribute to Miss Heather, but the truth is that there is too much going on and there is too much to say and someone’s got to point out that WE’RE GETTING ANOTHER F’ING BANK ON MANHATTAN AVENUE.

I’ve renamed the blog (in honor of Mr. Iggy Pop). And, I’m back.

And many thanks to Our Esteemed Colleague for his shout-out.

Although I think Miss Heather is super-awesome, the whole idea of a bunch of bloggers sitting around talking about themselves was generally less than appealing. Which is why I haven’t made it to a previous blogger summit; I mean, the Times may have been snarky about it, but - come on, with good cause. (That doesn’t mean that I don’t think bloggers and blogging is pointless - quite the contrary. Um, yeah.)

So I was thrilled that Sunday’s event in Greenpoint was outstanding. I was not familiar with every blogger or every blog; there was a diverse group of subjects presented; and the bloggers themselves were diverse (e.g., not a bunch of young white kids just out of college and new to NYC). Having Kevin Walsh from Forgotten NY there to present some North Brooklyn tidbits was also a great touch. And the food was FANTASTIC.

The next one is in Bed-Stuy in September. I’ll be there.

I never hear about these until they’re over - and this time, I make it to the page in time only to find out that it’s MY neighborhood they’re coming to!

A few notes:

1) Banker Street did get reverted to the previous one-way traffic pattern. My only consolation is that perhaps it will eliminate some of the noisy Studio B-related traffic jams, because the traffic can only go one way.

2) I neglected to mention the fabulous Palace Fried Chicken, at Manhattan and Nassau, that is also open very late. Not 24 hours, like the God Bless Deli Grocery, but pretty damn late.

3) The Dunkin’ Donuts at Manhattan and Bedford is also open late-r. I say ‘r’ because I do not know its hours exactly. It is definitely open later than its companion down Manhattan closer to Greenpoint Ave. Not that it really matters, because both of them are, quite possibly, the worst Dunkin’ Donuts in the entire USA. No selection, ever, and you would get more attentive service from Attila the Hun.

4) Miss Heather (thanks for the shout-out, darlin’) mentioned my old fave rave, the Chinese Musician, and it is true that they are probably the only place where you can get food that isn’t cooked on a grill late - they will let you get take out even if it’s 10:59pm, and deliver and are open until 11. But that’s a whole other post, the vagaries of Greenpoint delivery options, and will have to wait until later.
